Apple is once again setting new pre-order records for its new iPhone. After announcing a new “overnight” record last week, Apple is revealing today that it has sold more than 4 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets in just 24 hours. “iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do,” says Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement. “Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday.” The demand for the new iPhones is exceeding the initial pre-order supply according to Apple: “While a significant amount will be delivered to customers beginning on Friday and throughout September, many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October.”

Displaced residents of Monguno, in Borno State, which was recently taken over by Boko Haram, have said they saw helicopters dropping arms and food items for the insurgents in the bushes. The IDPs, who said they spent about 48 hours in the bush running towards Maiduguri, expressed worry that the Boko Haram sect was not the only ones involved in the insurgency, but that there are many foreign fighters and some external supports. Geneva - Human tests of two possible Ebola vaccines have proven safe and efficacy tests will begin within weeks in the three west African countries ravaged by the deadly virus, the World Health Organization said Friday. "These trials are about to begin for the two lead vaccines," WHO assistant director general Marie-Paule Kieny told reporters, adding that the vaccines would be tested on thousands of people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The Phase III testing to ensure the vaccines actually protect against the virus that has killed 8,259 people in the three countries is set to begin in Liberia by the end of the month, she said. Separate tests are scheduled to start in Sierra Leone and Guinea in February, she added.
