  The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for a probe on the alleged killings of farmers by the Fulani herdsmen. HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, expressed concern despite “hundreds” of farmers killed and “thousands” of women raped and massacred by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen, not much had been done to address the situation.

  A Rivers community has been left shell-shocked following an attack in the town of Omoku by suspected cultists. Just one week after cultists invaded the town, shooting and beheading residents, many community members remain locked in their houses in fear that the armed men will make a return. Benedict Ajie, a residents in the area, disclosed that he heard gunshots around 9 p.m. on the night of the attack, following which he found that two of his kinsmen had been killed in a house opposite his. A Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed March 3 to decide whether it would try MTN Nigeria and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ferdi Moolman, for copyright infringement. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba fixed the date at the Thursday hearing in a charge filed against MTN and Moolman over alleged infringement of copies of the musical works of an Abuja-based musician, Dovie Omenuwoma-Eniwo (a.k.a. Baba 2010).

Barely 48 hours after a middle-aged female passenger was found dead in a toilet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, another female passenger, on Friday, died aboard an Arik Air flight 749 from Port-Harcourt to Lagos. The passenger, who was said to have been pregnant, was accompanied on the 11am flight by her husband and cousin.

  The Lagos State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday recovered 301.2kg of cannabis in Mushin. This is contained in a statement by Mitchell Ofoyeju, the spokesman of the agency. The statement said the NDLEA Command carried out a raid on a popular market at Mushin, where it allegedlyrecovered 22 sacks of dried weeds which tested positive for cannabis weighing 301.2kg. The raid was sequel to a directive by the new Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Colonel Muhammad Abdallah, for the dismantling of drug trafficking organisations.

The Nigerian troops of 7 Division Garrison comprising 112 Battalion and Armed Forces Special Forces have rescued 195 civilians during a joint clearance patrol on suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ locations.   Angelique Kidjo, one of Africa's most prominent musicians, won her third Grammy on Monday and dedicated it to aspiring artists on the continent.
