HURIWA demands arrest of rampaging fulani herdsmen

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for a probe on the alleged killings of farmers by the Fulani herdsmen.
HURIWA National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, expressed concern despite “hundreds” of farmers killed and “thousands” of women raped and massacred by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen, not much had been done to address the situation.

“HURIWA is constantly bombarded with calls from distressed Nigerians on the current State of insecurity and attacks of farming communities by armed Fulani herdsmen,” said Onwubiko.
He said nonetheless the organisation’s efforts to draw the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari had yet to be yet to be adhered to.
Onwubio demanded the arrest of the perpetrators.
“Those who have carried out mass genocide must be arrested and prosecuted and their sources of arms and weapons identified as the best way to restore sustainable peace,” he said.
Onwubiko continued, “This state of impunity that is systematically institutionalised by the current Federal Administration is hereby strongly condemned as primitive; inhumane, brutal and unconscionable.”
The cattle herders and farmers have over the years been involved in deadly clashes over land.
