Man United to buy star for £20m, 'verbal agreement' done

Another day, another claim in Portugal that Manchester United have an agreement to buy Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica. The impending sale of Angel Di Maria to PSG has given the Portuguese media a renewed confidence that a Gaitan deal could be on, they seem to get this confidence at this stage every transfer window.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claim on Saturday that there's been a verbal agreement standing between Benfica and Manchester United for a while, and that agreement states that Gaitan would go to Manchester United this summer for a fixed price of €30m - as long as Di Maria left the English club. The €30m converts to a bit over £20m and it's a figure which has been repeated constantly in the Portuguese press as the price Manchester United are to pay.

O Jogo again bring up the issue of Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira wanting a player on loan as part of the deal. Nani did so well last season for Sporting Lisbon, after he arrived as part of the Marcos Rojo transfer, that it's an attractive idea to get someone in return.

Javier Hernandez is the latest man to be named and in an ideal Benfica situation Manchester United would continue to pay some of the player's wages, but that could be cheeky given Hernandez's renowned commercial value... even the Madrid press were moved to write about the extra coverage he'd brought whilst on loan at Real Madrid. Hernandez's coverage in Central and North America pays for much of his services.

A player on loan isn't a deal breaker for Gaitan, what may be a deal breaker is that a done deal has been claimed many times, and nothing happened. Man United to buy star for £20m, 'verbal agreement' done.

Sale of dried meat banned in Maiduguri
