Celine Dion Breaks Down During Emotional Memorial for Husband René Angélil

 
Celine Dion fought to hold back the tears as she broke down on stage during a memorial service for her late husband, René Angélil, at Las Vegas' Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Wednesday, February 3. The "My Heart Will Go On" singer, who was dressed in an elegant, shoulder-baring black gown, took to the stage to address friends, fans and well-wishers who showed up to the event, which was live-streamed across the world.


"Let me start by saying good evening, good friends. René, the love of my life, would be so happy to know we are here together. I feel the love in this room," Dion told the audience.
"This is my home away from home. At the same time, I'm supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home, and right now, I'm not sure how comfortable I feel," she added. Dion went on to remember her husband as a supremely kind and generous man.
"René never hated anyone. Is it possible someone loves everybody?" she asked the crowd. "I don't think so. But he never told me a person he disliked. Time was precious to him. He loved life so much, so very much."
Dion's husband died last month after a long battle with throat cancer. Dion had put her Las Vegas residency on hold for a year to nurse him through his treatment, only returning at the end of last summer.
After recounting stories of happy times together, the brave 47-year-old singer became overwhelmed with emotion as she drew her speech to an end.
"On behalf of my family, thank you again for being here for this beautiful tribute of mon amour, René, I love you, so much. Merci. Good night."
