Senator Ben Murray-Bruce buys Made-in-Nigeria ‘Innoson’ car (photos)

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce continued to rally support for locally manufactured products on Monday by buying some cars from Innoson Motors for his official use.
The senator along with Senate President Bukola Saraki had last week led calls for Nigerians to patronise domestic products after visiting the Made In Aba Trade Fair in Abuja.
The calls which helped make the push to trend on social media platform Twitter via the hashtags #MadeInNigeria and #BuyNaijatoGrowNaija have faded, but Murray-Bruce has continued to canvass support for the products.

The Senator, who bought shoes and hats from the fair, on Monday took possession of some vehicles from indigenous car makers Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company.
The vehicles were delivered by the Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Innoson, Innoson Chukwuma.
Proudly displaying pictures with the vehicles, the Senator in a series of tweets urged more Nigerians to support local manufacturers.
The Senator, who disclosed that he ordered five cars from the company, said a bulletproof version of the SUVs would be delivered to him in 90 days.
“I’m not here to demand that you buy Naija. I’m here to inspire #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira by buying and using made in Nigeria products myself,” he said in one of the tweets.
He also responded to those that have criticised the calls or described them as publicity stunts, saying the support was capable of improving the economic fortunes of the country.
For instance, he said in a tweet, “Someone called #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira “laughable”. We underestimate the big difference small things make. It can help us laugh to the bank.”
Saraki had on Monday last week, while inaugurating the Made In Aba Trade Fair in Abuja, assured local manufacturers at the fair that the Senate would help promote their products by amending the Procurement Act.

 

Saraki later posted photos from his time at the fair on his Facebook page along with a short comment stating that he had fun at the fair.
He said, “It was amazing to see the ingenuity and quality of Nigerian made products. In my remarks, I promised that the National Assembly would work on amending the Procurement Act by changing the word “may” to “shall” to ensure that Nigerian products are given first priority over their foreign counterparts in the procurement process.”
He also joined Murray-Bruce in checking out the cars supplied by Innoson today, tweeting about the experience as well.
Like Murray-Bruce, the Senate President has tried to sustain the push for improved patronage for Nigerian manufacturers with a pinned tweet on his twitter handle reading, “Every Nigerian regardless of political divide, should support #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira @NGRSenate will provide legislation to back it.”

Earlier today, some made in Nigeria cars were spotted at the senate car park of the National Assembly. The Innoson cars which were six in number included a jeep, a van and other salon vehicles. The call to patronize made in Nigeria goods started after the Made in Aba trade fair which took place at Area 11, Garki Abuja on Monday, February 8. At the trade fair, Cornel Osigwe, the spokesman of Innoson Motors revealed that the company would try to get the National Assembly to acquire its cars as its official car. Senate president, Bukola Saraki pledged the support of the Senate to local manufacturers in 2016, saying government’s patronage will be ensured through policies.
